Design Conversation #100: Schools That Build Community
September 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us as we share lessons learned from firms designing three Baltimore City Schools under the 21st Century Schools program. The program will look at each project through a social equity lens with a focus on community engagement and outcomes. The design team and community member for each project will give a short presentation, and afterward we will have a moderated discussion about the engagement process for each school within the context of the 21st Century Schools program. What has been effective in leading to well-designed schools? Has the process provided community benefits and how it could be more effective in the future?
This D Conversation is inspired by the Social Equity Design Award launched by AIA Baltimore and NDC for the AIA Baltimore Excellence in Design Awards. The award recognizes community-driven projects that promote social equity. The inaugural winner was Dorothy I. Height Elementary designed by Quinn Evans Architects. The 2019 winner will be announced at the AIA Baltimore Excellence in Design Awards Celebration on October 18.
