ABOUT B-MORE AWESOME:
Bmore Awesome Inc. was founded by Rashad Hawkins, a native of the Lexington Terrace community. Hawkins started his organizing career several years ago working with Community Law in Action (CLIA), to develop and organize youth around an initiative to change legislation around youth’s placement in adult jails. This effort included taking young people involved in the juvenile justice system to Annapolis to testify before State legislature to support efforts to remove youth from adult jails. He continues to do advocacy work through BMAi.
BMAi works directly with youth through various programming efforts. BMAi facilitates media advocacy workshops and hip-hop writing workshops for young people. The workshops help youth with their writing skills, and teaches them how to use their voices in the media to do advocacy work to improve their lives and the lives of their communities.Students create art about the social issues they face in Baltimore. BMAi also works one-on-one with students to help them use their voices to do hiigh-profile advocacy work. This has included Rashad taking groups of youth to Annapolis to testify before lawmakers .
